About Plymouth County

Plymouth County is located in southeastern Massachusetts, bordered by Norfolk County to the north, Bristol County to the southwest, Barnstable County to the south across the Cape Cod Canal, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. With a population of approximately 530,000, the county seat is Plymouth (and Brockton).

South Shore to Brockton: Divorce Across Plymouth County

Plymouth County’s two courthouse locations (Plymouth and Brockton) serve all towns, but there is an important procedural detail: all papers must be filed at the Plymouth location. The Brockton courthouse holds hearing sessions only. Filing at the wrong location delays your case — as your mediator, I handle this correctly.

The South Shore communities — Hingham, Scituate, Duxbury, Marshfield, Norwell — tend to have higher home values and household incomes, while Brockton, Bridgewater, and Middleborough are more affordable. This range means I see everything from straightforward cases to complex high-asset divorces across the county.

Plymouth County has a notable military-connected population. Military pensions and benefits have specific division rules in divorce, and military families sometimes face unique custody challenges related to deployment or reassignment. I understand these considerations and build them into the separation agreement.
